Auxerre to Agen

Another recumbent bike epic across France.  There seems to be a theme developing, accidentally, but based on European Bike Express' collection points; the last one was B to B (Beaune to Barcelona), this one is A to A.

Having gone down the east of France and over the Massif Central last year this year I thought I'd explore the westerly area a little more.  So, this trip went from Auxerre, followed the Canal du Nivernais to Decize, went west towards Chateauroux and Le Blanc then Poiter, followed La Vienne river skirting Angouleme, Limoge and Perigeux to get to La Reole, finally following the Canal Entre Deux Mers to Toulouse and a bit beyond before returning to Agen for the coach journey home.

About 1,500km in all.

Tent pitched

I got my tent set up and was the only other camper.  There was one other person about 50 metres away who was a friend of the owners and who helped out cooking the evening meal.

This was the raised gallery that you can see in one of the previous photos.  It was a nice place to sit and read, which I did for a while while I charged the every hungry Powermonkey inside.

The Lounge

This being the 'inside'.  A huge room with a computer you could use up one end, a pool table, a large settee and chairs with a TV and the tables for the evening meal.  The meal was optional, and, at 20€, it wasn't cheap, but I fancied a nice meal since I'd not had lunch and signed up for it.

The meal turned out to be a delight.  Less because of the food, though that was good enough, a soup, two salads, turkey escalops with chips, and a bottle of wine, but more because of the company.  There were two dutch women with 2 children, and a dutch couple with 3.  Luckily the 5 children ate quickly and then went to play, save the eldest boy who was good company.  The adults were better than good company, and I don't think it was the bottle of rosé I had to myself.  We had animated conversation until quite late.  I was used to being in my tent by night fall, about 9ish, this night I wouldn't get to bed until gone 11.00.

Day trip to Agen

23rd July.  69km, avg 14.2km/hr, max 40.8km/hr

I decided to have a ride into Agen, both to explore the town a little, since I'd ridden straight past both when going south and when returning north, but also to find exactly where the coach left from on Sunday so I'd know how to get there and not be in any rush.

It was a sunny morning, the previous days rain having passed, and a nice run.  With no panniers and baggage and no rush it was a good ride.
